By: Mary Carver, P.H.Ec. ‘For 10 Days Agriculture Comes to the City.’ What an appropriate annual tag-line used by The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF).
Since 1922, Agriculture has brought international attention to Toronto in November, as farmers, producers, commodity groups, and homesteaders arrive, to exhibit their very best agricultural products and livestock. Competition is steep, but food education is a primary focus at RAWF. Many features meld seamlessly into Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. This year, Royal planners invited Professional Home Economists, Registered Dietitians, Food Educators, Researchers, Farmers, Authors and Consumers to discuss food perspectives on Nov. 7th. The invigorating event was promoted as The Royal Food & Nutrition Forum and held on-site. Please find five out of seven New P.H.Ec bios listed below. Other new P.H.Ec.'s include: Christina Xina Lamothe, P.H.Ec. ![]() Hi all! My name is Adrienne and I am excited to finally become a PHEc! I am a recent graduate of the Food and Nutrition Program at Ryerson University where I took a strong interest in health promotion, community engagement, and sustainability. In my communities, I am often involved in facilitating health related programs for populations throughout the lifecycle, presenting food demonstrations, and volunteering in food banks. My experiences and education have shaped my interests in promoting food literacy, food security, and health through community development. During the past two years as a member of the Toronto Home Economics Association, I have learned that Professional Home Economists play a pivotal role in promoting these elements of wellbeing. I am thrilled to be welcomed into the OHEA and I look forward to expanding my horizons within the association by meeting many of you and learning from your knowledge and expertise as PHEcs!
